Tio’s Latin American Kitchen is now open in Shelter Cove Towne Centre. The new 4,000-square-foot restaurant features seating for 200 guests and a to-go area with a full second bar for pick-up orders. The restaurant will also include indoor and outdoor seating, plus a colorful mural created by Charlotte Ofee, a local high school student.

Hilton Head Brewing Company released Cackalacky Common in July. Based on a famous beer brewed in San Francisco, the amber lager is fermented at warmer temperatures. The beer is malty with a crisp, hoppy finish and 5.5% ABV.

From a humble one room setup, The Grind Coffee Roasters has relocated and expanded. The local, independent coffee roaster and coffee shop was founded in 2016 by owner and head roaster Ian Duncan. The shop serves infused coffees and the coffee of the day changes a few times a week. Lowcountry residents are finding a new spot to satisfy their sweet tooth in Bluffton. Delectable Desserts by Russ opened in November on Bluffton Parkway near the Enmark gas station. The bakery specializes in desserts like cannoli, German chocolate cake, coconut pie and cinnamon rolls; many types of bread also are available. Owner Russ Gardiner is from Windsor, Canada, and imports his flour and peanut butter from his home country. “It’s a big difference in flavor compared to what I can get here,” he said. “I have family who bring it in.” Delectable Desserts by Russ also does catering. Russ went to culinary school in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has also lived in Fort Mill and Aiken.

The bakery is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays. The shop is closed on Tuesdays.

Vine, an intimate bistro in Coligny Plaza, now is owned by a French family. Chef Olivier specializes in Mediterranean flavors with a hint of Asian fusion. The décor is heavy on hardwoods and reminiscent of a speakeasy as diners eat by candlelight. Vine has been called “the most romantic place on Hilton Head Island.”

Lucky Rooster Market Street in Coligny Plaza will serve a globally influenced menu including Lowcountry rice bowls, catfish Po’ Boy sandwiches, lamb roti rolls and shabazi chicken flatbread. Chef Clayton Rollison, a Hilton Head native and owner of Lucky Rooster Kitchen & Bar, said he wanted to open a second restaurant to offer “elevated food in a quick service setting.” The new restaurant will feature two bars with craft cocktails, beer and frozen drink offerings. A children’s menu will be offered. The new location at 1 North Forest Beach Drive is expected to open in June. 

Seventeen chefs from South Carolina are serving up tasty bites at the ninth annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, held May 30-June 2. Attendees will savor their offerings at immersive learning experiences, epic tasting tents, and unique dinners and other events. Two Lowcountry chefs are participating in the event: Nathan Beriau of Montage Palmetto Bluff and Orchid Paulmeier of One Hot Mama's.
