Custom made individual pizzas are the secret of the Pizza Co.’s success on Hilton Head Island. Using fresh ingredients in an assembly line format, this fast-casual eatery lets diners create a personalized pizza that’s ready quick. Fresh ingredients including just-picked tomatoes, sweet bell peppers and hand-crafted sausage are among the many choices for toppings.
Choose your own crust, sauce, cheese, meat, vegetables and drizzle or select from a menu of signature pizzas. Each pizza is baked for just two minutes to perfection with a thin, crispy crust. The eatery’s brick oven, which was made by a Mediterranean Co. in Maryland and has a rotating floor, reaches 800 degrees. Pizza Co. co-owner Marshall Sampson travelled to train in the Co.’s test kitchen and attended Pizza University, where he learned the finer points of tomato sauces, dough and olive oil.
Partners Sampson and Billy Watterson came up with the concept for the Pizza Co. during a school trip with their kids to Kennedy Space Center. They chose Main Street for their first location of the Pizza Co. because of its proximity to Hilton Head schools. The store is located at 1201 Main Street, Hilton Head Island, open everyday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Pizza Co. food truck debuted February in Bluffton. It’s usually parked on S.C. 46 near Bluffton Village and has a similar menu as the store. It is open Monday-Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. 843-681- 7437 or yourpizzaco.com.
